Can I get gauges (stretched earlobes) as a male Marine poolee?
I enlisted in the Marines with no piercings. I leave in three months and want to get my ears pierced and gauged (stretched) slightly before then. I am a male, and I fully understand that they need to be removed by the time I go to basic, and have no problem doing that. Is it against policy and regulations to do that while in delayed entry if they will be removed before basic? It's definitely not a priority by any means or anything, nor would it somehow be a giant target if I'm not wearing them for when I leave. I was checking if that was part of the contract is all, and since I'm not willing in any way to risk my goal of becoming a Marine, I was simply checking the rules. Thanks for the help all.

- before you shipout, tell them that you are gay so you can get the sign on bonus... only the maines have this "being a gay marine" bonus. take advantage!!
- Don't do it, your recruiter will have a fit and you will have a hell of a time explaining your actions to the Corps once you ship out. AS for "Marine Stud", you must be making the claims about gays and the Corps, because you, personally, don't have the testicular fortitude it would take for you to be a Marine, Soldier, Sailor, Air Farce member, or even a boyscout, hence the $hit claims.
- since the military dont allow piercings then you may have a problem when you show up for basic. I know that my recruiter way back when used to tell the guys that if they wanted it they shoulda got it before they even entered the dep program cause once they are in they are expected to present themselves with some signs of military honor" now if he was right or wrong i dont know but i know the guys in our group decided not to.
- Seriously, you are three months from shipping and you think that getting your ears peirced is a good idea? There is nothing legally anyone can do to stop you. . . but you're about to be a Marine. Ot might cause you problems at MEPS, since that would be considered an alteration and I am sure you've signed the papers with no piercings, that could void your contract. I voided a guy joining the Army because he has the US Army Engineer emblem tatooted across his chest two months before he shipped. He has to spend the rest of his career (since he rejoined a year later) in the Ordnance Corps and explain to people why he has an Engineer Castle on his chest, and has never been in the Corps of Engineers. Think about it, and if its that important to you, maybe the Marine Corps isn't the best option for you after all.
- dont be an idiot, you might as well paint a target on your head, even if you take them off before you ship out. if you wanted to make yourself look like a voodoo head shrinker you should not have chosen the marines. you are what other marines will call a SH*Tbag marine if you even make it. you're another pnk that just wants to see how much he can get away with and will probably leave the corps as an e1....
- No. And even if you already had huge holes in your ear lobes, you would not be allowed to wear earrings or gauges or whatever they are called while a Marine. Ch 5 (4) Earrings. The below policy applies when in civilian attire, as well as in uniform. >Ch 5 (a) Male Marines. Male Marines are not authorized to wear earrings. >Ch 5 (b) Female Marines. Female Marines are authorized to wear one earring per ear, as described in paragraph 3010, in civilian or military http://www.marcorsyscom.usmc.mil/sites/mcub/PAGES/Grooming%20standards%20regulation%20change.doc
- no. One, they are NOT permitted at all. Two.. when you signed up into DEP you agreed to NOT change your status. and that includes body modification.
- I have stretched ears myself and love them and they haven't hindered my career, but the Marines is not a place to do anything "different". Basically, when you join the American military, you give up pretty much all personal rights. Ironic, since you're supposed to be protecting personal rights and freedoms.
