Sight Gauge

A good shotgun sight?

I have a small problem, when i shoot my 20 Gauge i miss almost every time but with a 12 Gauge ill hit and turn clays into dust, i was thinking that a red dot or a halo scope might help on my 20 Gauge, can anyone suggest a sight or suggest a answer to my shooting problem im using bird shot

  1. This better not be Call of Duty related or I swear to.... never mind. I would go with the red dot sight for precision and the halo for showing off since it looks pretty. Other than that it might be your caliber as in your Gauges. 12 gauge to 20 gauge is a pretty big change, maybe you aren't used to the difference. I suggest using it a bit more before wasting money.
  2. Try a cheap BSA first ($30), see if that is what you are looking for. I would go with a red dot sight vs a red dot scope, that should give you a quicker acqusition of your target.
  3. I have had a scenario with a .410 barrel that shoots to the left a little. all be it, it's on a combo gun, but the principle is the same. take some plasterboard or dry wall, or pratically any sheet of something you don't need, and draw an "X" on it. load up a bird shot round and take a shot at the "X" from 15/20 yards. you will soon see both your spread and your sighting. It's rare, but shotguns can be sighted badly, or more likely this often can indicate a barrel deformation, which can be the first signs of an abused gun's death song. If you are shooting straight, and it's not a technique problem, consider a 3 inch shell or some larger shot, you might not be making the distance on a 20 gauge.
  4. Shotguns are point and shoot firearms. I've done some of my best shooting on the skeet range when I used a shotgun that was actually missing the front bead sight. The bead is merely a point of reference...and not really meant to be used as a sight.
