Sight Gauge

I've been having some problems with my gauge. Can anyone help? ?

I am gauging my ear and I have found that when I use my tapers with the o rings, my ear gets really icky. It gets puffy and gooey and crusty and it's just not a pretty sight. This only happens when I use o rings, though. If I have a silicone tunnel in my ear is perfectly happy. I clean my ear twice a day with antiseptic specifically for piercings. Is there anything I could do or use to get it to stop getting so icky? I'm wanting to go up to a 2 or 0 and I'm at a 4 now. This started happening just a bit after I guaged to a 6. I'm not sure what's causing it to happen and I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to make it go away. If anyone could give me some advise it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance. :)

  1. Sounds like your problem would be solved by not using O rings. Which is perfectly fine, tapers aren't meant to be worn as jewelry anyway. Just stretch your piercing and insert your new jewelry right away.
  2. Well, to start off. It's not called, "gauging", I hate when people use improper terms, It's called "stretching" and do sea salt soaks. Twice a day, don't keep tapers in btw. They're not meant to be worn as jewelery. Keep it clean with sea salt soaks and clean your jewelery often, should be fine. You're going to get ear funk, probably. which is gross, but it happens. To avoid some of the stink from that, use wooden plugs, or tunnels. Not the greatest, but yknow.
  3. It's called stretching, not gauging. gauge is another term for "plugs" "tunnels" etc. Are you allergic to metal ? Just insert the taper then put a plug right away. (DO NOT USE SILICONE plugs when your ears are trying to heal) - it will harbor bacteria and makes your ears alll infected. Use silicone plugs when your ears are fully healed. :) Also, stretch your ear every 2 weeks - 1 month. let it fully heal and use sea salt soaks or bactine.
