Sight Gauge

How do I reset the oil gauge in my 2009 Chevy Cobalt?

I don't want to go to the dealership and pay all that money to get my oil changed just so they can reset the oil gauge. How can I reset the gauge myself? It is a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

  1. 1. Turn the key to the ON position (not start, just power on) 2. Within 10 seconds, press the gas pedal to the floor THREE TIMES. 3. The display should reset itself. Watch it. 4. Turn OFF the ignition. Then start the car. You are good to go.
  2. The Chevrolet Cobalt uses a computer system called the Engine Oil Life System that indicates when to change the engine oil and filter. The computer monitors things like engine revolutions and the temperature of the engine. The oil life system must be reset every time the oil is changed in order for it to properly monitor the engine conditions. The "change oil soon" light will stay on constantly when the system calculates that oil life has been diminished. Resetting the oil life system turns off the indicator light. .1 Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to "ON/RUN" without starting the engine. 2Press the reset and information buttons on the control panel at the same time to enter the personalization menu. 3Press the information button to scroll through the menu options until "Oil-Life Reset" is displayed. 4Press and hold the reset button until the display shows "Acknowledged." This indicates the oil life system has been reset. The oil light turns off. .
