Sight Gauge

Fuel gauge shows empty even though tank is full on Peugeot 707?

Hi, I let my car run lower on fuel than normal, and after I filled up my fuel gauge shows as empty and doesn't move. When I switch on the ignition the gauge moves a mm or so but still displays empty. I have heard people mention a sender unit but not sure how easy that is to fix! Or if its best taken to a garage. Any ideas?

  2. Anything to do with the petrol tank is a garage job if you're not sure what you're doing. It sounds like it needs a new sender unit which is the device inside the tank that floats on the top of the fuel and as the level drops when you drive, the resistance of the sender changes which moves the electric gauge. It sounds like it's either completely bust or possible just stuck. I'd give it a few days to see if it fixes itself, but it's not a major job if it needs a new one.
